"C'mon, Jiaming, I'm completely healed..." Xue's eyes widened imploringly. "I'm not gonna get hurt, so you won't get in trouble."

Jiaming growled, looking up and away from that damn face. "This is some stupid ploy to get me to feel guilty about fighting you, isn't it? You get hurt, you traipse off, and before I know it, your pals hunt me down and make me feel bad about it. Hell no!"

"Even if that's true, I won't tell Xiao and Shikang about it!" Xue nodded enthusiastically. "I mean, I get into freak accidents all the time, they'd never know!"

"Nnngrrrr..." She tugged at some of her hair in agitation, turning her back to him. In exasperation, she shouted, "Fine, fine! It's your dumb idea, not mine! I'm not going to be responsible for beating you more senseless than you already are. Happy now?"
She folded her arms, making a sour face. "Find us an open area and I'll fight. Away from the others." The last thing she wanted was getting too much attention; it made fitting in harder than it needed to be.

"Thank you, Jiaming!" Xue beamed at the girl, sheathing his sword and looking far too excited. "I think I saw a clearing when I was wandering around earlier. It's pretty far from the camp, so I don't think anyone would stumble on us." He began to lead her back into the woods.

Jiaming growled, turning and following the way-too-happy-about-this boy, occaisionally snapping at a tree she'd pass by with the tail end of her whip. As much as she loved a good fight, she didn't want to have to worry about causing the guy more pain than he was probably already dealing with--whether he chose to admit it or not. Little bastard..

From looking at Xue, though, one would never know he was in pain. Actually, he looked like he was about to burst into song any minute. Fear of getting hurt was at the bottom of his list right then; all he could think about was how much better he'd feel after getting everything off his chest.
"Right here!" he chimed, crossing into the clearing and stopping, waiting for Jiaming to get ready.

It seemed the cheerier Xue became, the more agitated Jiaming was. Even if she claimed to look forward to sparring, she had never actually done it before. All that haughty talk was just that-- talk. Still, she told herself that she had practiced hard enough, and it was no big deal. Just don't hurt the moron.
She kicked at the ground a bit with the tip of her boot as she strode into the clearing; the ground was more on the brittle side. It meant she'd have to be careful not to overstep and slip. That in mind, she took a great deal of distance from Xue. Unfurling the leather whip, she shook it out, so its length stretched out past her, resting in the dirt.
"Whenever you're ready," she called over, rolling her shoulders till she felt them crack.

"Okay..." Xue tightened his grip around the hilt. He was sure Jiaming was better at this than he was; he'd never actually seen her in action, but the way she handled that whip was more than unnerving. But still, what if he hit her? He was using the reverse side of his sword, and the clunky old heirloom wasn't very sharp to begin with, but if he slipped up...
He shook his head, as if trying to push those thoughts away. He'd just have to be careful.
Gritting his teeth, he charged forward with a haphazard swing.

Jiaming blinked, starting to step backward as Xue began to advance, blade brandished and all. She wasn't going to let him get too close so easily; close combat wasn't what her weapon was designed for.
"You can't get me doing something like that!" she called.
She made a quarter turn and swung her whip in a broad, horizontal stroke--if he didn't want to get stung, he'd have to stop--and when it finished its path, she swung it up, and then back towards Xue, faster, making a whistle and crack.

Instinctively, Xue held up his sword, letting the whip snap across it. It stung at his hands painfully, but his objective was achieved; he had the end of the weapon in his hands. He yanked on it hard, hoping to disarm her.

"Ah, hey!" Jiaming jerked forward with the whip, catching herself with an awkward step. Coiling a small length of the whip at the base of the handle, she shook the whip up and counter-clockwise gradually to unravel it from the sword, bringing it back down with a snap.
Stepping back again, letting the whip drag a little, her free hand settled on the jiujiebang--just in case. Until then, she just wanted to work with the less-damaging of the two. She yanked the length behind her and held her arm steady to swing again at the next advance.

Jiaming was trying to stay away from him, Xue knew that much. That whip wouldn't be nearly as effective at close range, so she was using it to scare him away, instead. He'd just have to keep going after her, and ignore the weapon. Readjusting his grip, he lunged forward again.

Xue seemed pretty confident in wanting to close the space up to throw her at a disadvantage. Jiaming chewed on her lip, trotting back and taking a hop to the left, sending her whip after his ankles to trip him up, or at least tangle him up a bit. Just anything to regain the distance.

The manuever worked this time, and Xue's momentum worked against him as the whip made him stumble. He crashed to the ground, his face contorting as the various aches and pains came back in full force.
"It's fine!" he called to Jiaming as she frowned at him. "Just give me a second!"
