"I-I..." stumbled Orie, suddenly out of words. He wasn't sure how to handle the shift of gear. That was the bluntest thing he had heard Asai say; everything else had been more subtext than anything. He ultimately settled on an utterly uneloquent, "Uh....thank you?"

Rolling one shoulder, Yuuto dismissed the matter as easily as if they had been discussing the weather.
"You'll accompany me and my fellow clan members back to Chiba. From there, we will make the proper arrangements, and you and I will proceed to... properly thank Watanabe-san for his outstanding dedication to the cause."
Seemingly back in command mode, Yuuto didn't give Orie time to respond before turning on his heels- waving to indicate Orie should follow.
"We ride out at dawn. You can share my room at the inn for the night."
And, as if he couldn't resist, Yuuto paused before turning the corner. "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Hide-kun," he threw over his shoulder with a subtle grin.
Well, at the least, things will never be boring...

Orie made no move to trail after the general until there were a few paces between them. He remained silent as he was given the commands, eying the man's broad back as Asai drew away, and for a moment, a very brief one, he could almost see the outline of the visiting samurai that had impressed him so much as a child. It disappeared when the man rounded the corner.
What's with this guy?! he thought, moving slowly but heavily, feet almost stomping the floor in his irritation. It seemed like every word out of his mouth that wasn't an order was a gibe, and even his smiles seemed to hold a secret insult in them. He wasn't sure how Grandfather - ever strict and unbending, could even make a friend out of this sort of man. Maybe the stress of the job got to his brain.
