Xue didn't answer Xiao. He simply listened, glancing at the other with wide eyes. Granted, he hadn't known Xiao for very long, but his friend didn't seem the type to act... Paranoid, Xue thought, frowning slightly at Xiao. He's being paranoid. Jun was nothing but nice to us... and it's not like Xiao likes everyone. He doesn't like Shikang, either.
But even then, that was different. Xiao didn't like Shikang, sure, but there he was, telling Xue to stay close to both of them. This wasn't just simple dislike.
"... yeah," Xue said absently, glancing back to Naia. "Teamwork."

Naia found his tent without incident. Its other occupants were either tired enough from drills or apathetic enough in general that they were satisfied with exchanging names and brief pleasantries, so Naia settled in pensive silence, preparing his bedroll for the evening. His dagger - which woudn't be a dead giveaway, per se, but would not be a good thing to advertise - was hidden in rolled-up clothing. After nightfall, once his tentmates were asleep, perhaps he'd stash it nearby; there was a stand of trees that might do. Buried at the foot of one, it wouldn't be hard to find again if he thought he would need it.
The Chinese forces were more numerous than his employer had suspected, and learning the pattern of the night watch would be helpful, but it wasn't good enough. He'd have to get close to someone higher up, whether they knew it or not. Coming late had already aroused suspicion, though; anything risky like listening in on the generals' private banter would have to wait.
Night would be falling soon. Feigning tiredness, Naia shut his eyes and waited.
