"Aww, just walk and quit complainin'," he retorted, jabbing Jiaming's side with his elbow. There was no force to the blow, of course, but it wasn't exactly a light tap either. "I'm bringin' you along, aren't I? Anyway, s'not like I could choose who my teammates were, they were given to me. But they're cool." He cast her a sideways glance, curious. "What, are your teammates world-class poets or somethin'?"

"Who's complaining?" Jiaming scoffed, sticking her tongue out and leaning away from the elbow. When inquired about her teammates, her face resembled that of one who had just drunk sour milk, yet she still let out a bit of a laugh at the idea of poets.
"Fleas are more poetic than they are," she said, shaking her head. "They're the driest, whiniest, and probably oldest handful of twits enlisted. So naturally they kicked me out of the tent. It was the nicest thing they've done since I met them, actually, and the only thing I'll thank them for, ever."

Xiao made a face, twisting it like he had just seen the ugliest hang on this side of the planet. "Glad I'm not you," he said, ever so tactfully. "Well, my teammates are better, but they're a little weird too," he laughed, but there was fondness in his voice. "But you'll see for yourself soon enough."

Covering her mouth, Jiaming looked the other way, snickering at Xaio's face. Already the day had shifted from outright boring to pleasantly unpredictable. And tomorrow was move-out day. Definite improvement.
"Oh, of course," she replied dryly to his immediate response, but perked up a bit when the subject switched back to his teammates. "Weirdos make better company than stiffs; I can't wait. And on that note...Are we there yet?" She grinned and jabbed back at him with her elbow.

"Be a little patient, will you?" Xiao exclaimed, fending off his arm half-heartedly. "It's not surprising that no one lives close to that tree, with you crackin' at it all day long. Just be thankful I'm lettin' you come at all!" He quickened his pace. Xue might have a cardiac arrest if Jiaming tried using his whip anywhere near the boy.
Xiao couldn't wait.
