"Ahh..." Motioning for the third member of their party to follow, Xue hurried after Shikang, trying to bow and run at the same time. "I-I guess we're team members from now on! I'm Zhong Xue... it's r-really nice to m-meet both of you!" The awkward smile remained pasted on as he tried to act happy at having two new companions, rather than having some mortal fear that they would kill him in his sleep.

Shikang noticed Xue had a hard time keeping up so he slowed down his moving pace while turning his head to give the other lethargic stare. Even so his gaze passed to the third character, frowning. Both had some type of goofy expression on or the way they spoke started to getting irritating. Just thinking about it bothered him. At last he turned his head straight forward to head towards their new grounds.
"Ma Shikang," he said in introduction but nothing more.

Xiaoszi caught up in no time, considering the leader had slowed his pace. He threw an arm around the closest's person's shoulders, or rather, it was the only person he could reach, considering the tallest member of their thrown-together 'group' was much too tall. "I'm Wu Xiaoszi! You can call me Xiao! S'nice to meetcha! I was almost afraid that I was gonna have to work alone back there when everybody got paired off except for me! I was sure glad when you guys showed up, let me tell you that!"
His voice was a little too loud, his speech a little too quick. It was no wonder he was the 'leftover' for General Kwok's group. His chatter was almost incessant.

Xue just knew this was going to go badly. One member of his group seemed to dislike him already - Shikang must've been so annoyed to have to team up with someone like him - and the other had his shoulders in a death grip. Awkwardly, he patted Xiao's arm with a shaking hand, and slid out of his grasp.
"W-Well... everyone's ahead of us already, so we should get to work, huh?"

"Yeah, yeah!" agreed Xiaoszi excitedly, adding a jump to his already bouncy steps. He brushed past Xue and darted to the materials, bending down to finger the canvas material in his hands. "Whooooa, this thing is huge! Could fit at least six or seven guys in here, forget three! Lu-cky!" He straightened, not hand-on-knees and standing slowly like a normal person, but shooting up was if reaching for the sky.
He rolled a wooden poll on to the top of his boot and kicked it up, not unlike how village boys played with straw-twine balls, catching it with both hands. "Okay! Let's make the best tent in this camp!"

Xue couldn't help but attempt to return the older boy's easy grin. Xiao didn't seem too bad. A little overly familiar, maybe, but it might help to have someone with that much positive energy on his side.
"Mm, w-we'll all fit, no problem. I'll help you with those..." He bent down and picked up two more poles, shifting them several times to attempt to get a decent grip. "H-Have either of you done this before?"

Shikang glanced to the two, not bothering to engage himself into the introduction or even acknowledge the fact Xiao had introduced himself. "We're given five poles, meaning four will be set up in a square, the fifth one will be placed across to keep the flask from drooping in the center," he started to speak of the process, his voice nonchalant. "The rope will be used to secure the flask, meaning we'll have to create holes," he was explaining the way he was taught how to build them. If the two of them didn't understand the simplicity of it - he knew he would hate this group. Shikang leaned down to take one of the poles, easing it over his shoulder to stand on the opposite side from the two. Engaging the squared-process.

Xue nodded, showing Shikang that he understood. The pile of materials had looked a bit daunting at first, but the way the older recruit explained it made it sound easy. Shifting the poles in his arms, he bent down, grabbing a corner of the canvas and pulling it off to the side to give them room until they needed it. "Let's start on the foundation, then?" he mumbled to the canvas, laying down one of his poles next to it.

"Right, foundation!" echoed Xiaoszi. It wasn't as if he had a choice; he had no idea how to go about camp-making in the first place, so he figured he should at least be grateful that one of them did. He looked at Shikang and backstepped a small distance, then stopped, and walked forward a few feet. "Hmm," he muttered, looking down at the timber in his hands before flipping it onto his back, where he balanced it on his shoulders. "So," he began while preoccupied, "how far should I stand? And howdya make these holes?"

Shikang gave the two a blank stare, although glad to see they were starting to do something. Glancing to Xiao's position he gave a nod to show where he was standing was good enough. "Right about there," he told Xiao while moving backwards to settle the pole down, forcing it down so that it would stick into the ground. His back was facing the two while he applied more pressure to further the pole into the ground, Shikang turned his head. "You have a knife, don't you?" he asked Xiao, it was essential to carry a knife for survival.

Xue frowned as he attempted to shove his pole into the ground. He was put at a slight disadvantage because of his height, but eventually, he managed. Giving it a few extra pushes to make sure it didn't fall, he picked up his second pole, moving to complete the square.
"You have a knife, don't you?" he heard Shikang ask Xiao, and he cringed inwardly. A knife... he knew he'd forgotten something. He'd have to get a hold of one, before the other two recruits realized that he was unprepared.

Xiaoszi dropped the pole, kicking it up with the back of his heel and catching it with his right hand. "Huh?" he said, looking from one to the other, a little confused at their expectant faces. "A knife? Oh not at all," he answered, quite plainly.

Shikang gave Xiao a frown, shaking his head in utter disappointment. “Nevermind then,” but before he went continued on with his work he gave Xiao a sarcastic stare. “The longer you do that the more we’ll be behind,” he was indicating to the pole-switching, whatever Xiao was doing. Glancing to Xue for a second - glad to have at least one somewhat normal working person around. Shikang went back to get the next pole, positioning it slightly in the middle - waiting for Xiao to place his pole into the ground.

Xue finished with his pole, shaking it slightly to make sure it was firmly situated in the dirt, then stepped back towards where he'd left the canvas and rope. "I'm sorry." It was barely above a whisper. "I d-don't have a knife, either. I can rip holes in the canvas, but they won't be as neat."

"Yeah, yeah~, whatever you say, boss," Xiao answered half-heartedly, bringing the pole into a vertical position and jamming it down into the dry earth. That guy was a real stick in the mud, and the other kid probably had in him all the courage of a very brave mouse. The dirt didn't give much leverage - it shifted at sand at the surface, and was flakey beneath. He threw his weight on to it, clinging to the pole almost comically, until it drilled a deep enough hole. He grinned victoriously at it. "There y'go!"
