Routine.
Get up, breakfast, practice, dinner, go to sleep. Repeat.
Routine.
All everyone seemed to be doing was sitting around. Lazy, boring wastes of time. Sparring, here and there. Casual. Boring.
I came here to avoid this, Jiaming thought darkly, scanning the camp the same as every day. It was infuriating. This couldn't possibly be what this army was doing day in and day out. Even if there wasn't anyone to go and kill, surely there was something that they could be doing. Moving. Going somewhere.
ANYTHING.
"Dammit."
Back to routine. She turned on her heel and began her trek out of camp, grinding her teeth in agitation. If I don't get to kill something soon, this idleness is going to kill me.

"Afternoon."
Jiaming whipped around to see Xue, who flashed her a wry, half-hearted smile and a quick wave. It was a surprise to see the solider outdoors, for once; ever since Sze and Shen's deaths were announced, he'd mainly kept to his tent, usually accompanied by either Xiao, Shikang, or in rare cases, both at once.
"Things're starting to balance out enough that Xiao and Shikang feel up to getting at each other's throats," Xue explained, with a small, 'what can you do' shrug. "Thought I'd get some exercise."

Jiaming blinked. She hadn't seen the pipsqueak poking his nose around lately. That might've been another factor adding up to the agonizing boredom--nobody to talk to. She was going to slug him for being so scarce, but the guy was so freaking sensitive, she didn't want to send him back into hiding.
"Things were unbalanced?" she asked idly, with a bit of a sour note in her voice. "As if anything has changed at all."
On a slightly more cordial tone, "Nice to see you out in broad daylight--scared someone's going to snipe you?"

"I'd say things've changed... on my front, at least," Xue noted slowly. "General Kwok does things pretty differently. It just takes some time to... y'know..." He gestued vaguely. "Adjust."
"Snipe me?" He tilted his head, as if not sure what that meant. "I just had to talk with Xiao and Shikang for a bit, work some things out n'all. What've you been doing?"

Jiaming bit down on a dry comment about the complete lack of things to have been done. Even if she wanted to be mean, no sense in driving away company that could actually talk back.
She gestured a bow with arrow being loosed at his confused response, figuring that'd speak for itself.
There was a slight desire to inquire as to what was being discussed, but that was none of her business. It was probably just stuff that any team was supposed to--might've been a bad move to have ditched her own. Oh well.
At the question, she shrugged, starting to walk in no particular direction. "Oh, you know. Pillaging villages, beating up old people. The usual." She grinned.

"Pillage?" Xue seemed to pale a little. "Isn't that when you chase down the girls 'n... y'know... touch them?"

The expression faultered a bit at the concept, but Jiaming broke into a laugh that she quickly stifled with a hand that conveniently covered the reddening of her cheeks.
"S'part of it I guess," she said, louder than necessary, the laugh turning into a cough that cleared her throat. Guess I won't be doing much pillaging, if that's the concept.
Awkwardness was..awkward, and so Jiaming hastily turned the question around. "What about you, shorty? Tell me about how amazing these past weeks have been for you, I'm sure they were."

"Well, you know how it is... with all the shifting around..." Xue seemed a little less calm at the very mention, but he bit his lip, swallowing it. "But the quiet's sort of driving me crazy. It almost makes me want to fight... then I realize what I'm wishing for and wonder if I'm crazy already." He laughed weakly. "That kind of thing."

"Wow, if you want to start tearing heads off, we must all be nuts," Jiaming exclaimed with feigned suprise. "I guess I shouldn't feel so suprised when the trees start yelling 'Ow! Quit it!' now."
She grinned, folding her arms. "Sitting around, doing stupid chores--it's as if we're not even in the army anymore, huh? Thrilling. Truly."

"A-Ah, I never said anything about tearing heads off," Xue stammered, sounding more like his usual self. "Just that... I'm sure General Kwok and General Rie have a strategy, so we should be patient!"

"Plah."
Jiaming made a face at the word 'patience'. Then, a thought.
"Your camped near her tent, aren't you?" She didn't wait for an answer. "Oh, even if you're not, whatever. Why not casually pass by and accidentally catch a bit of information?"

"Are you serious?" Xue choked, squeaking on the last word. "I can't do that! Do you know how much trouble I'd be in?"

"Xue, Xue, Xue," Jiaming cooed, putting an arm over his shoulder and leaning a little. Looking sympathetic for a second. A sad, short little second before the smirk came back. "You won't get in trouble! The instant she looks at your frightened, puppy-like face, she will forget what she was mad about and wander away. Try to cry a little, too; really overplay your pitiful qualities."

She dug her fingernails a bit into his shoulder, sighing loudly to exit her agitation without kicking him. "Haven't you ever snooped around before? Man. Do I have to teach you everything?"
