Xiao scoffed, rolling his eyes in amusement. "Yeah, yeah, like a million!" He smiled fondly, and waved his hand, saying, "Nah, just kiddin'. There's four of us too. I'm the third! So you're the oldest, huh? Still a squirt though," he teased, bringing a hand to flick the center of Xue's forehead.

Xue was thankful it was dark; Xiao probably didn't see his cheeks flush at the 'squirt' comment. "Yeah... I probably don't look sixteen, huh? Ah... you never told me how old you are, Xiao."

"Huh, really?" Xiao squinted one eye. "I'm seventeen!"

Shikang stared at the edge of one of the poles, listening to the other twos conversation. He was not interested in what their life or family life was like, he could care less over the two. However, one thing was for sure - he was not able to sleep with all the talking. Didn't the two of them now that they had to be up bright and early? With little sleep that would hinder their groups performance. Suddenly, Shikang sat up and turned his head to look at the two. There was no noise from him before his hand reached for one of the extra blankets, suddenly tossing it at the two as to not make any noise.
"Will you two go to sleep already?" he hissed under his breath, the shadows from the night made him look monstrous.

"Well it's not like we weren't tryin' to, y'kn-" complained Xiaoszi, pulling the blanket down from their heads, mussing up his unruly hair further. When he half-turned to face the older soldier, however, he hadn't been expecting that half-shadowed, looming visage to greet him. "AIYEEE!" he screeched, forgetting to lower his voice. He jumped backward, colliding into Xue and knocking them both down in a tangle of extra blanket and limbs.

Xue had barely opened his mouth to apologize before he Xiao tackled him, knocking them both into the tent pole he'd collided with before. It wobbled precariously, but he quickly steadied it. It was enough that they'd woken Shikang up, but if they made the tent fall on his head...
"Xiao," Xue gasped, struggling to push him off. "That hurts a little."

Shikang watched the younger figure topple back and over onto Xue and then run into the pole. In frustration he lifted his left hand and placed it to his face before sighing. He started to wonder what this all had to do with politics. It really meant nothing. Not bothering to say anything to the two he laid back down, his back facing Xue and Xiao.

Xiao rolled off of Xue to the best of his ability, but the blanket had knotted his legs into place, so he was only able to get the upper half of his body free. He waved a finger at Shikang's prone figure. "He...he's secretly a monster!" he stuttered.
Any further statements were interrupted by a muffled voice from outside. "Shut up in there!" yelled their neigbors groggily. "You're keeping the entire camp up!"

"I'm sorry!" Xue called, so hopelessly twisted in his own blanket that he couldn't even sit up. He laboriously flopped over to face Shikang, trying to give him some semblance of a contrite bow. "I'm s-so sorry... we tr-tried to be quiet..."

Shikang gave out a sigh when the neighbor's of the camp started to yell about the noise. He even ignored the monster comment until he turned to see that Xue was facing him, apologizing about the noise. Looking between the two he reached up to grab Xue's shoulder, pulling him close so that the kid's face was above his own. "Family, yeah? Then don't disgrace them," he said bitterly, the frown apparent on his face now. Not letting go of Xue, he turned his head to stare at Xiao calmly.

"Wh....what are you looking at me for, damn monster," Xiao hissed, second reaction to fear apparently being aggression.

Xue looked as if he was going to sink right into the ground. Shikang had obviously hit a nerve, and Xue tried to look anywhere else in the tent but at the boy in front of him. He mumbled something barely audible, trying to shrink out of Shikang's grip.

"The one who is willing to take down a group meant for team work should be called the monster," his voice was sharp for a moment before he noticed that Xue was slightly struggling to get away. So, he gently let go of the kid and turned his head away from the two. Shikang didn't mean to be so cold, but he had a lot on the line.

"Huh!" Xiao shot back, wrinkling his nose in distaste. He finally managed to pull his legs free from the blanket, and proceeded to wrap it into a bundle and throw it back at Shikang, aiming for the older soldier's head. "Says the person who just collared his own teammate! S'there's nothin' wrong with gettin' to know the people you're gonna be stuck with from now on, though if I had any say with it I would've chose anybody but you. No wonder you were the leftover, I bet no one wanted to work with ya!"

Xue put as much distance between himself and Shikang as possible, until he shrank into the shadows of the tent. He was completely silent during Xiao's outburst, but finally, he spoke up.
"I don't mind working with you," he mumbled. "And I-I'll do my best not to bring you down. But I already apologized. Please don't bring my family into it."
