"Thankyoufortakingcareofme!" Xue bowed to Tanrui as fast as possible, then turned on his heel, racing out of the tent. How is it tomorrow night already?! AHH, damn medic, he did SOMETHING to me, I know it!
Xue came to a skidding halt in the middle of the camp, bending over to catch his breath. He'd been in such a hurry to get out of the medic's tent, to get started with his newfound goal to surpass this Shizukiri Naia, but... how exactly did one go about that?
... and more importantly, what was he supposed to be doing right now?
I've completely lost track of the schedule... he thought, shoulders sinking. For all I know, it's my shift right now...
But first and foremost, he had to track down his teammates; if anything, he had to apologize for his conduct last night.

"Oh," came a voice behind Xue, "you're here." Shikang had just finished helping a soldier. By the tone of his voice no one could tell whether he was upset for the release of the younger teammate. No, he was rather glad to see Xue's health was better. To make matters worse he placed one hand over the boy's right shoulder to turn their weight towards him. He had wanted to see Xue's face, and his eyes bore down intently.

Xue made a small squeaking noise as his heart stopped beating for a brief moment; he was always jumpy, but last night's events had left him even more on edge than usual. "Sh-Sh-Shikang..." he laughed nervously. "I'm sorry, I overslept a little. Is there something we should be doing?"

He should've known Xue would be jumpy but he didn't consider it. Letting his hand drift back to his side he stood a little straighter and looked to the left of the camp. "I suppose we're getting the time to individually prepare ourselves," Shikang might've elaborated on the topic, but nothing was there. Today he seemed distracted and all the more detached. His gaze didn't even move.

"Prepare ourselves..." So Naia had been telling the truth about the war. Of all the things to actually be right about, it had to be that. But it reminded him...
"Do you know what happened to Jun... I mean... Shi... zu..." He attempted to sound out the Japanese man's name in his head, but after a moment, found it too troublesome. "The spy? Have you heard anything?"

The left side of the camp could no longer distract him from his teammate and his questions. "No," Shikang replied dejectedly. It was wrong to question anything, and surely it was none of their business what would have happened with the spy. Or any prisoner for that matter. He was here for his family, and he reminded himself that just shortly after Naia's discovery. Shikang was here so they could live and like his father explained, even to benefit himself.
He was used to the gap of silence but it left an opening for more questions. "I am going," he said abruptly and started off forward, not even bothering to give a second glance.

Despite having been given the entire day to spend on her own to train and condition, Jiaming's lost hours of sleep left her in a very irate mood. Fortunately, the loud lashing at the surrounding trees and air kept enough people away from her so that she did not have to deal with anyone, and, by the end of the day, she felt a bit better. Just hungry.
The blacksnake wound around her left shoulder, the jiujiebang gathered up and tied to her waist, she headed back to the congregation of tents, only glancing around very occaisionally in hopes of seeing something food-related, but to no avail. Gah. I missed dinner.
As she meandered around, she saw Shikang walking by, and then, following the direction he left, saw Xue. She slowed down to almost a thief's pace, moving around the tents till she was out of the boy's sight.
"Hey! Aren't you supposed to be healing or something?" she called when she was almost directly behind him, smiling cheekily, though she really was curious to know how that medic let him leave.

"A-Ah?" Xue looked back and forth between the approaching Jiaming and the retreating Shikang, completely and totally confused. Giving up, he grabbed Jiaming by the arm and dragged her along with him as he chased after Shikang.
"Wait a minute! Shikang!" he called, before turning to Jiaming with a breathless smile. "Sorry about last night... completely careless of me, will repay the favor, definitely won't happen again... Shikang! Slow down!"

Shikang! Slow down! rang in his ears and he slowly paced his steps to a stop. Turning around he watched Xue drag Jiaming with him, and by the looks of it he wasn't all that pleased to have the two tagging after him. What did they want, he wondered. There was plenty to do around the camp and many tasks to be completed. As soon as the two got close to be ear shot, he spoke up. "What?"

"Whassa matter, cat got your t--gehh? Hey!"
Jiaming jerked forward a little at the unexpected grab-and-yank of her arm, taking a prolonged moment to register that...Hey. Why is HE dragging me around? She shook her arm a bit in a half-hearted attempt to be released while she trotted to fall into pace next to Xue. Nobody drags me around.
Just as she had caught up, she looked forward to see just whatever it was that they were apparently in a hurry to catch up with, and flinched a bit. Why the hell are we bugging Shikang? The guy didn't exactly strike her as the upbeat, easy-going type. More like the I-will-cut-you-if-you-bother-me type.
Wait. Why the hell did I say 'we'? I ain't doin' anything!
Jiaming grimaced a bit, but the instant Shikang turned around, it shifted into a half-assed grin. Her free hand lifted a bit and she wiggled her fingers in a tiny wave. Hey there! Please, kill the boy--I'm just the captive.

Xue stopped as Shikang turned around, resisting the urge to flinch a little bit. Why was he bothering Shikang? And more importantly, why did he grab Jiaming, whom he barely knew at all? Well, that was just an accident, he mused. I meant to just apologize to him, but...
Some part of him registered how impudent he was being, bothering the two of them at once, but somehow, this didn't make him nearly as mad at himself as he would have been, say, last week. The thought of wandering around the camp alone bothered him much more, really.
"We'll accompany you!" Xue chimed, smiling broadly.

His gaze landed on Jiaming, watching the wave with a raised brow. Then he noticed Xue's gaze and slowly shook his head. "Fine," he said before turning and walking forward again - except this time he was going at a decent pace. "Do you even know where I am going?" he asked the two, though Xue specifically.

"We are?" Jiaming asked flatly, still sort of smiling. She tilted her head ever-so-slightly at Xue, and the smile almost looked like a snarl. Yes, dummy, let's follow the guy around. A guy who clearly doesn't feel like hosting a bunch of busybodies. I would love to be put on Mr. One-Line-an-Hour's list of nuisances.
She was considerably surprised by Shikang's reply, so much as to look back at him with raised eyebrows, as if she thought he was joking--which would have surprised her more. Once he got walking, it was like she had to follow now--well, he DID say it was fine! Why the hell not.
"Erh, probably one of three things," Jiaming said lightly and with a shrug. "To go eat, to go sleep, or to go practice. S'the only things you can do around here."

"Practice?" Xue chimed, looking far too energetic for someone who'd been stabbed in the throat the previous evening. "We could definitely do that... maybe one of you would be willing to spar with me? I should get some practice with a real opponent and all..."

Shikang smiled sadly and knew the two couldn't see the pained expression. It was cold here, just like any other day. He had wanted to take this opportunity to be alone and get away from the crowds and the faces that held exhaustion. But Xue had persisted and he didn't want to concern anyone with his quiet request. "Sure," he said, again not being so specific to what he was doing.
